Nvidia’s RTX Remix Runtime has just been updated to version 0.4.1, bringing a range of improvements to users and better compatibility. The purpose of RTX Remix is allow modders to create their very own RTX remasters of their favorite games of old – designed to bring full ray tracing and DLSS 3 to older gamers in need of a makeover.

For those who missed out on the news, RTX Remix recently went into open beta, giving a much wider range of users access to the Remix tool to help remaster old games with ray tracing and generative AI texture tools. More recently, a new update brings some Spring cleaning-like improvements. This unlocks even further potential for graphics cards that have ray tracing support.

Now that the open beta is here, more people from the modding community can get their hands on RTX Remix tools. As we said, a series of changes help fix former compatibility issues as well as fix crashes for unsupported hardware. There are changes for both the DXVK and Bridge implementation that makes up RTX Remix, the former improving captures / rendering in games, and the latter focusing on compatibility and implementation.

The toolkit is designed to primarily remaster older DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 games which don’t have natively ray tracing support for their own. Adding path tracing, Nvidia DLSS, AI-enhanced textures and even the user’s own custom assets.

RTX Remix Runtime 0.4.1 patch notes

With Nvidia releasing a full list of changes for the 0.4.1 version on their GitHub page, we can give you a full rundown on the changes just below, for both DXVK and Bridge operations.

DXVK:

  • Fixed an issue where captures for many games were not showing correctly in Remix Toolkit.
  • Fixed an issue where a captured scene was showing flipped upside down in Remix Toolkit.
  • Fixed an issue in the Remix renderer that caused Remix Toolkit to crash on unsupported hardware.

With these changes, we should see a wider range of titles working as intended with RTX Remix, as well as dealing with crashes.

Bridge:

  • Made a variety of changes that should further improve compatibility.
  • Added new sendCreateFunctionServerResponses configuration option, which is enabled by default and improves stability during startup for many games.
  • Fixed an issue where the Bridge would crash or hang on startup due to multiple threads having access to shared data at the same time.
  • Fixed an issue where the improper MinSurfacePitch value was used in a 32-bit build of the Bridge client, causing game crashes on some texture update operations.
  • Fixed an issue where the Bridge client filtered out calls to CreateVertexDeclaration() under certain conditions, which could lead to a game crash during subsequent SetVertexDeclaration() calls.
  • Fixed an issue where the Bridge client would improperly initialize cached option values that it uses, potentially leading to mouse or keyboard input not working in the Remix user or developer menu UI.

A lot more technicality here, but Bridge also sees compatibility fixes and other game crashes to provide an overall more stable tool for modders.
