US Property/Casualty Nine-Month Net Premiums Written Rise 11.3%

OLDWICK, N.J. //BestWire// – Nine-month net premiums written for the U.S. property/casualty industry increased 11.3% to $655.66 billion, according to a new Best’s Rankings report.

Munich-American Holding Corporation Cos. was the sole company among the 25 largest writers to record a decrease, with NPW declining 13% to $6.62 billion.

State Farm Group retained the No. 1 spot with property/casualty net premiums written increasing 18.6% to $68.51 billion. No. 2 Berkshire Hathaway Insurance’s NPW rose 3.8% to $58.75 billion. No. 3 Progressive Insurance Group NPW rose 20.1% to $46.39 billion.

Among the 25 largest writers, Assurant P&C Group posted the greatest percentage increase, 142.5%, with $5.81 billion in net premiums written.

The ranking includes NPW, admitted assets and policyholder surplus and percentage change. It includes combined ratio after dividends and more.
