Google Is Rebranding Bard to Gemini

Google is planning some big changes to its Bard AI tool, including a change to its name.

According to a leaked document posted on Twitter/X Saturday by Android app developer Dylan Roussel, Google has plans to change the name of Bard to Gemini.

Beyond the name change, the change log says Google has “evolved the UI to reduce visual distractions, improve legibility, and simplify navigation.” According to the document, Google has plans to debut voice chat with Gemini as well as a new “ultra 1.0” version of the AI tool with “Gemini Advanced,” a paid plan comparable to ChatGPT Plus.

Google Gemini will also be getting an Android app.

“Gemini is integrated with Google apps like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube, making it easy to get things done on your phone. You can interact with it through text, voice, or images,” the changelog reads. “To chat with Gemini on Android, download the Gemini app in the Google Play Store. On iOS, try Gemini in the Google app.”

The posted changelog has a date of Feb. 7, suggesting we might see them then.

The app is expected to be available soon in English in the US followed by Japanese, Korean, and English globally except for the UK, Switzerland, European Economic Area countries, and associated territories.

The changelog also mentions that Gemini will arrive in Canada on Feb. 7. Canada is currently one of the only major regions in the world without support for the AI tool.
